I thought it would be interesting to follow what has happened to Ulises Ruiz and the situation in Oaxaca. It was very hard to find what Ulises is up to now a days, in tried to look him up in online and I could find much, I was only able to find some information about what happened in Oaxaca but nothing more.

I did found a more recent article from 2008, that gives us a glimpse of the situation.

I would like to puts some emphasis on the last line of the article:

As long as there will be no real justice, there will be no real peace in Oaxaca.

  1. This is a very powerful article. Although there was a victory by preventing URO from entering the city they feel a lost everytime a peaceful protest turns violent. All the innocent people who are wounded and some even dying is ridiculous. It's sad to know that this more than likely will go on for years to come because the people won't give up and the government won't give in. If the people give up then all those they've lost died for nothing and all the fighting was for nothing. So they have to keep going.

  2. As far as I am concerned, this guy is a dictator plain and simple... it's like he just can't accept the fact that people don't like what he's doing and should stop. He's powerhungry and oppressive. I agree he has a gift for turning peaceful situations into violent uprisings and retaliations. He needs to be taken out of any position of power.

  3. I agree with both of you. Ulises Ruis is a corrupt, despot, opressor that should not have anything to do with politics in Mexico. I as a Mexican feel very sad that the governmental system is so messed up. But what is so unbelievable is that i could not find any information about him. One would think that as a political figure there should be some transparency about his life, but apparently not.
