This article is very informative. It's speaks about how the movement emerged from the civil rights movements. It speaks about court cases that are exactly the same as other famous cases such as Brown vs Board of education. I always find it interesting about how much we know and things directly related to what we know is not taught to us. Enjoy the article

I think this article is interesting, although I question how valid the information is that is being presented as it is posted by About.com. I did find it interesting, however, that they provided a section on student groups and their involvement in the Chicano movement (I'm pretty sure that we will be discussing those groups in a few weeks). In particular, I thought the section on education reform was rather important. I find the protest that described the idea of moving away from a Euro-centric curriculum to be particularly interesting, as I feel that it is something that is still going on in schools today. In today's education system, there is a new emphasis being placed on teachers who have a background in ethnomusicology and who find it imperative to incorporate world music into the schools music curriculum.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Samantha about the validity of the information. Other than that I found the article interesting and began to think about the information that I was absorbing. The more I thought this would help me think that when people say history repeats itself is true. According to this article those cases happened before the Brown v. Board yet they could be related with some of the circumstances. This would be in relation to the segregating of a specific ethnicity/ and race of students from the white students. They fought for equal rights and this is true many different groups have to fight for their rights and this is something that is constantly repeated throughout the world.
